Basilica of San Lorenzo

The basilica of San Lorenzo is one of the biggest churches in Florence. The church has had long association with the ruling Medici family, initially designed as the family chapel by Brunelleschi but the construction was not completed until after his death. The design for the marble exterior was designed by Michaelangelo, however was never installed and the exterior remains devoid of decoration. The interior of the church is richly decorated with every surface clad in a variety of coloured marbles.
